I know I sound like a broken record but we are on the cusp of Winter Veil within Heroes of the Storm. Champions from far and wide duke it out in the Nexus over and over until only one team remains the victor. So I cannot stress to you enough the importance that when your day comes whether in glory or defeat that it is critical that your Heroes skin matches your mount. Yes I know, it is a heated debate but let me shed some light on why.
Firstly, we all have to start somewhere right? Whether you’re a die-hard of F2P (free-to-play) or buy everything under the sun you will eventually amount a huge item collection within Heroes. Now it will be assorted and depending on luck of the draw you may find yourself with not the best pickings but it can be done! As Aurial would put it “There is always Hope.”
If you’re at the beginnings of your adventure into the Nexus then you are going to get slammed by how much free stuff they’re going to throw your way. Add in whatever their current recruit-a-friend bonus is and before you know it you’re going to have skins, mounts, and gold. That said, it may take quite a bit longer to find a unique look to the Heroes you enjoy playing but that’s fine! Everyone starts somewhere and whatever you’re missing you may be able to fill in with some crafting.
So how is it done? Well, that’s up to you my comrade. It’s wherever your flair, creativity, or desires lead you. Do you like to play a futuristic space marine or would you rather have more of a wild west marshal? Are you a fan of Warcraft or would you prefer everyone to be Zerg whenever possible? It’s your Hero so make them yours.
But it doesn’t have to be a skin. Even just a color variant of a default skin can be enough to set you apart. Pick a mount and off you go. If you have the extra change throw in a banner (of which I openly agree there are far, far too few to choose from), and even a spray and call it a day. You don’t need real money or a lot of time to quickly craft out what you choose to be your favorite Heroes.
I hate to admit it but I would say that there is profiling within Heroes. If I come across someone who is in the default skin, default mount, and default spray I’m going to go ahead and assume they’re new to this. Of course, it can work the other way around. You could use it to have the enemy Heroes potentially underestimate you but… how long is that going to last?
At the end of the day whatever you do is entirely up to you, but there are so many cosmetic items in the game you’d be foolish not to at least experiment with them. They greatly provide variety and appeal to the game especially if you are picky about how your Hero is presented. And if Blizzard keeps bringing out more and more cosmetic items then they have to be popular, right? Choose your Hero. Make them your Hero. Play the game your way. I’ll see you in the Nexus.
