I’ll be honest, I think I’m pretty good at playing Heroes. I would even go so far as to say that I’m above-average. But apparently, I can’t be all that great because I realized just yesterday that I had screwed up on something basic and very key. Read your talents people.
My newest best bud Alarak and I have been playing together quite a bit as of late. He’s one of the many Heroes I’m trying to get more game time on. In the right hands he is a force to be reckoned with, but in my hands, he’s only about a 2 KDR ( kill-to-death ratio) on average. Nothing I’m proud of but nothing to brag about either, hence, the extra playtime wanted. However, I only just noticed that I was misreading a key talent of his at 13. It reads:
What did I miss? Well because I opted to skim it instead of fully-digesting what I was reading I missed the spot where it mentioned: “Hitting the marked Hero with Discord Strike increases Sadism by 3%.” That’s a pretty big deal. I know I’m not quite yet where I want to be on Alarak but that clarification alone has changed my playstyle up. I’ve now been trying to apply Rite of Rak’Shir on more durable targets such as Tanks and Brawlers so that I can stack up my Sadism better. What’s Sadism you ask?
Previous to this understanding, I was choosing Rite of Rak’Shir but opting to put it on squishies as much as possible This sort of mindset was not a bad idea as presumably, I’d kill the target getting the free Sadism. But, those are just bite-sized 5% chunks at a time. I could be getting stack, upon stack, upon stack of 3% chunks more reliably. I’m an idiot.
What’s probably the funniest thing is that I only found this out because I got tired of doing so bad on Alarak. It was time to look up other people and find out what tips and tricks they had for players like me. In this case, I hopped over to Ten Ton Hammer and looked at their Alarak guide. All I had to do was scan down to their talents section and BOOM! I read their advice on Rite of Rak’Shir and everything changed.
So don’t be too stubborn or full of yourself, you can always improve. I still think I’m better than average in Heroes but it doesn’t mean I can’t make mistakes. More often then not I take terrible assumptions or bad decisions which frequently lead me to my doom. At least next time I do I’ll have read my talents, alive or dead.
